sevil tunaboylu

A graduate of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University's Painting Department, Sevil Tunaboylu has been a prominent figure in the art community since 2005. From 2008 to 2010, she was the co-director of the non-profit initiative Mtaär Open Art Space, which she co-founded. Since 2007, Tunaboylu has been working as a visual arts instructor, and alongside that has had two solo exhibitions at Sanatorium in 2012 and 2015. Her work is a study in contrasts, exploring juxtaposed objects, portraits left out of the frame and the traces they leave behind. As part of her research methodology, Tunaboylu persistently shifts her subjects across various media, fluidly transitioning from painting to sculpture and from photography back to the canvas.

Among the exhibitions she has recently participated in are "Stuck in Time", Hayy Open Space (Izmir, 2021), "Bitmez Tükenmez Dönüşe Geçtiler", DEPO (Istanbul, 2020), "Tiny Office Art" project, Swedish Consulate, "Three Window Game", NOKS Independent Art Space, "In the Place of the Sun", artSümer Gallery (Istanbul, 2018), "Stay With Me", Apartment Project (Berlin, 2014).
